MOVING TO SINGAPORE? HERE'S HOW TO MAKE YOUR
RELOCATION STRESS-FREE!

Singapore is the Lion City of Southeast Asia, a city, an island, and a country all in one. It is
one of just three remaining city-states globally and is now a significant center of business,
innovation, and trade. It's genuinely international and multicultural, with a dynamic culture
you won't find anywhere else. It's known for its incredible food, culture, architecture, and
clean-cut modernism.

Singapore is a tiny island republic in Southeast Asia with a population of 5.5 million
inhabitants. This city has become a tourist stopover because of its skyscrapers and potpourri
of Indian, Chinese, and Malay influences, tropical temperature, fabulous food, vibrant
nightlife, and beautiful places to visit. On the other hand, Singapore is considered a
beautiful garden city, with greenery covering about half of its land area, more than 50 major
parks, and four nature reserves. Furthermore, Singapore is the world's largest business
center. Rain falls throughout the year in Singapore due to its tropical climate; nevertheless,
most days are sunny because it is 1.5 degrees north of the equator.

SINGAPORE AS AN EXPAT DESTINATION

Expats worldwide flock to Singapore yearly, and the city-state now has over 1.31 non-
permanent residents/citizens (June 2010). Singapore is usually considered Asia's most
accessible city for expats to settle into, offering outsiders the opportunity to learn about
diverse cultures in a reasonably secure and contemporary setting.

Singapore is an ideal location to raise a family. The high level of education, low cost of home
help, and solid security make raising children here much more straightforward than it would
be in your own country.

This city has a well-known high level of life, and its healthcare facilities are second to none.
Singapore has a meager crime rate, and even late at night, the streets are secure. Several
expat groups and clubs are located across the city, so you will always be able to find fellow
expatriates no matter what country you are in.

WEATHER IN SINGAPORE

Singapore is close to the equator; it has a tropical climate with no distinct seasons. It has a
high temperature all year, high humidity, and much rain. Temperatures vary from 22 to 34
degrees Celsius (72 to 93 degrees Fahrenheit). Humidity rises with rains, reaching 100
percent in some instances. June and July are the warmest months. Meanwhile, November
and December are the monsoon season.

TOP FAMOUS PLACES IN SINGAPORE

Gardens by the Bay, Little India, and Arab Street, Singapore Flyer, Universal Studios, Botanic
Gardens, Chinatown, Singapore Zoo, Changi Museum, S.E.A. Aquarium, Changi Beach,
Sentosa Island, Pulau Ubin, Clarke Quay, Orchard Road, Punggol Waterway Park, Cloud
Forest, East Coast Park and many more.

EDUCATION SYSTEM IN SINGAPORE

Singapore's education system is outstanding. However, it is a touch stricter than the more
flexible Western system. The academic year runs from January to November. It is divided
into four terms, with term breaks ranging from a week to a month in length. If you have
children, you should look at schools before relocating and deciding where to live.

International students have yet to be assured admission, and there will be a centralized
exam (the Admissions Exercise for International Students, or AEIS) to take before your kid
may be enrolled, as well as school openings. You can find a list of International School
locations here. You may find details on the Ministry of Education's website, and your schools
will be able to assist you with the procedure and paperwork. A Student's Pass will be
required if your child does not have a Dependant's Pass.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

Singapore offers excellent (and reasonably priced) transportation options! Most
destinations you wish to visit regularly should be accessible by bus, M.R.T. rail, or cab. The
EZLink card, which can be filled out at A.T.M.s or customer service counters and used on
buses and trains, is simple (and at McDonald's). For schedules, prices, and route maps, see
the SMRT website. Taxis in Singapore are well-regulated, and you may dial, hail, or locate
them in stands. They are meter-operated, offer you a receipt, and show contact information
in the event of a disagreement. However, because the price can be challenging to figure out
and there are various fees (particularly from midnight to 6 a.m. and during rush hour), you
can use a fare calculator to estimate the cost.

SINGAPORE PASS

The government is developing Singapore Pass, a single-sign-on platform for government
services. It will make using services more accessible, and yo'll also need it for tax purposes,
so apply as soon as possible!

COST OF LIVING

Besides a few sites, such as education, housing, and transportation, the cost of living in
Singapore is relatively low.
  • S$4,228 per month (single)
  • S$7,458 per month (family of 4)

SHIPPING TO SINGAPORE

Singapore, one of the world's busiest ports, effectively manages goods. Shipping your
possessions to Singapore by water is likely the most cost-effective alternative, but it will
take several weeks longer. The sea freight cost is typically determined by the amount of the
things being sent. However, you may purchase furniture reasonably after arriving, so think
about what you need before packing up your complete home.

PROHIBITED ITEMS

All illegal in Singapore are chewing tobacco, banned substances, cloned CDs and DVDs, and
any content deemed obscene or traitorous.

PETS

When cats and dogs arrive from countries with a high risk of rabies, they are confined for 10
or 30 days. You must reserve quarantine space three months in advance, and some breeds
are entirely prohibited in Singapore. Micro-chipping and up-to-date vaccination records and
a valid Veterinary Health Certificate are required for all pets.

ESSENTIAL THINGS EVERY EXPAT SHOULD KNOW BEFORE
MOVING TO SINGAPORE

  • The eastern side of Singapore is warmer and drier. That is something to consider while
deciding where you want to reside. For more information on popular expat neighborhoods
in Singapore, see our guide to living in Singapore.
  • In Singapore, owning a television necessitates the payment of a tax (the license fee).
  • The kind of dogs that you may bring into the nation is limited. Depending on the building you
live in, there are additional restrictions on the quantity and type of animals you can possess.
  • Because left-hand drive vehicles are not permitted in Singapore, importing any left-hand
    drive vehicle is pointless.
  • You may drive in Singapore with your license for up to a year, after which time you must
convert to a Singapore license. The Singapore guide contains further information about this.
